Mindfulness Therapy
Mindfulness Therapy, also known as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a type of therapy that combines traditional talk therapy with mindfulness practices.
Mindfulness practices in therapy can look like: guided meditation practices, breathwork, body scan exercises, eyes open meditations and somatic practices that can help you get to know yourself and your inner world.
Mindfulness therapy can help you heal by inviting more compassion, presence and self-love into your life.
Our therapists can help you learn to observe your thoughts, feelings, and sensations with more compassion, more curiosity and less judgment, resulting in a life lived with more ease, peace and joy.
What is Mindfulness Therapy?
It's possible to cultivate a life with more peace, ease and self-love. We can help.
How Does Mindfulness-Based Therapy Work?
Mindfulness therapy helps you align your head, heart, body and soul. As you learn to attune and attend to your whole self, you’ll experience more compassion and curiosity for your unique thoughts, feelings and experiences in the world.
Mindfulness therapy will help you learn to love yourself more, and judge yourself less.
Learning mindfulness practices will help you rewire your mind-body connection and soothe your nervous system, resulting in a reduction of feeling perpetually stuck in survival mode, and an increase in your capacity for thriving.
Here at The Holistic Counseling Center, our therapists integrate mindfulness into the therapy process to support you on your healing journey.
Our approach is rooted in addressing the mind-body connection and honoring your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellness to help you make sustainable changes in your life.
All of our therapists are trained in mindfulness and can guide you in learning how to practice. Once you learn how to be present with yourself and your experiences, you’ll notice an increase in your capacity to observe your thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations with more compassion and less stress. This process can help you get out of survival mode and heal the deeper root cause of your struggles. From this place, healthier coping mechanisms can be cultivated, and suffering will decrease.

Here’s how to get started:
-
Mindfulness is the practice of learning how to be aware of and engaged in the present moment, with compassion and non-judgment. It involves paying attention to thoughts, feelings, sensations, and experiences without getting caught up in them or reacting impulsively.
Practicing mindfulness can help improve mental clarity, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. It has roots in Buddhist meditation practices but has gained popularity in recent years as a psychological tool for stress reduction and personal growth.
Mindfulness can be cultivated through various techniques such as meditation, breathing exercises, body scans, and mindful movement activities like yoga or walking.
The goal of mindfulness is to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, increase self-awareness, and cultivate a more compassionate outlook towards yourself and others. Overall, mindfulness can bring about a sense of calmness, focus, and balance amidst the chaos of daily life.
-
In mindfulness practice, you prioritize three key qualities. First, there's intention—you decide you want to cultivate awareness. Second, you bring your attention and focus into the present moment, noticing what arises with curiosity and openness. Finally, with your intention and awareness, you cultivate feelings of kindness, curiosity, and compassion towards yourself and others. Mindfulness practices will help you increase self-awareness, emotional resilience, and contentment.
-
While meditation and mindfulness evoke similar qualities, they are not the same. Meditation typically involves specific techniques to cultivate mental states like calmness, concentration, or insight. Mindfulness, however, is more expansive—it’s intention is to help you cultivate presence, compassion, curiosity and non-judgemental attitude towards whatever is arising in your life. It’s usually more accessible, practical and easier to learn than more formal meditation practices and can be used anytime in your life.
-
The benefits of mindfulness range from stress reduction and anxiety relief, to an increase in self-love, compassion and joy. Depending on various factors like your temperament, how much time you spend practicing, and your unique personal history and healing journey experiences, the impact of mindfulness practices will vary.
We believe mindfulness to be a highly beneficial tool to have in your healing journey toolbox and weave in into most of our work with clients. If you have any questions about mindfulness, you can ask us during your initial consultation call, or discuss with your therapist in your next session.
-
Learning how to practice mindfulness can help you decrease symptoms of anxiety. If you are struggling with stress, anxiety and overwhelm, mindfulness can help support your nervous system, providing a reduction in ruminating thoughts, worry, anxiety and panic attacks. Mindfulness can be used as part of a holistic treatment plan for healing anxiety.
