Who We Work With

We believe true healing happens when we treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. That means we don't stop at helping you feel better. We walk the full path with you, from finding safety in your nervous system, to reconnecting with your heart, to remembering who you actually are underneath the pain, the programming, and the patterns.

How we approach holistic psychotherapy:

  • Clinically Grounded, Spiritually Informed
Our work is rooted in evidence-based therapeutic methods. It's also informed by something deeper. We honor the spiritual dimensions of your life, not as an afterthought, but as an essential part of who you are and how you heal.

  • More Than Symptom Management
We look beneath the surface to understand what's actually driving your distress. The emotional threads, the body's signals, the patterns that started long before you had words for them. We're not interested in quick fixes. We want to unearth the root.

  • You Are Not Your Diagnosis
We view your struggles as messages worth listening to, not as evidence that there's something wrong with you. Our work honors you as a whole person, not a collection of problems to fix. We're here to help you reconnect with who you are beyond your symptoms and build the self-trust and self-love that are foundational to the healing journey.

  • Practical Skills + Deep Inner Work
Our sessions balance grounded, everyday strategies with deeper therapeutic exploration. Whether you're learning to regulate your nervous system, engaging in shadow work, or reconnecting with your inner child, you'll walk away with tools you can use right now and the deeper understanding that makes healing and change possible.

    EMDR Therapy

Your brain has an innate capacity to heal, but sometimes difficult experiences interrupt the process and can keep you stuck.. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess trauma, stress, and deeply rooted patterns, releasing and rewiring what's been held in the mind, body, and nervous system.

    Spiritual Therapy

Why are we here? Why are we suffering? Spiritual therapy integrates clinical depth with the existential and spiritual dimensions of your experience, honoring that you are so much more than your diagnosis, your history, and your symptoms. This is where therapy meets something sacred.

Hi, I’m Kim Burris

Founder of The Holistic Counseling Center and A Licensed Therapist in San Francisco

I believe that being human is a practice and that we all need support.

I founded this practice because I know how hard it can be to find support that actually works: therapy that doesn't just manage your symptoms but helps you build a life that feels like yours. A life where you're connected to your Highest Self, where you can handle whatever life throws at you, not because everything is perfect, but because you've finally learned to trust yourself.

Our San Francisco team brings both clinical expertise and real heart to this work. I want you to know that all parts of you are welcome here. There's nothing about you or your experience that is too much, too messy, or too hard. We see you, we honor you, and we'll walk through it with you.

If you're ready to take the next step, we'd love to talk.

Experience the Benefits of In-Person Therapy in SF

We love San Francisco for its wild, fierce, fast, creative energy. We also know how hard it can be to find a moment just for you.
A moment to exhale. A moment to look within.

That's why in-person therapy can be such a gift.

When you come in person for therapy, you put your phone away, you can exhale. You're not in your office with unread messages pulling at your attention. You're not at home staring at your to-do list or a pile of dirty dishes. You're in a space where the only thing being asked of you is to show up and be present for yourself.

When you come in for in-person therapy: You're not alone with your process. We're right here with you.

Therapy in San Fransciso FAQ’s

  • Yes! We offer in-person therapy at our San Francisco office in the historic Hobart Building in the heart of downtown.

We also offer in-person sessions at our offices in San Anselmo and El Dorado Hills. Virtual therapy is also available for clients throughout California.

  • The easiest way to get started is to book a free consultation call through our website. During this call, our intake coordinator will learn more about what kind of support you're looking for, answer any questions you have, and match you with one of our therapists who fits your preferences, personality, and goals. From there, we'll schedule your first session at our San Francisco office or online, whatever works best for you.

  • Most clients are scheduled for their first session within one to five days. We know that reaching out for support takes courage, and we don't want scheduling to become a barrier. When you book your consultation call, our intake coordinator will work with you to find a time that fits your schedule as quickly as possible.

  • Finding a therapist who treats the whole person, not just symptoms, isn't always easy. You know what you're looking for, but finding a great fit can be mind numbing. If you're looking for an in-person holistic therapist in San Francisco who integrates evidence-based clinical work with mind-body practices and spiritual depth, you're in the right place.

At The Holistic Counseling Center, our San Francisco therapists are trained in modalities like IFS, Somatic Therapy, Brainspotting, and mindfulness-based approaches, all within a framework that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit.

Schedule a free consultation call and we'll help you find the right fit.

  • We offer in-person therapy at multiple locations throughout the Bay Area, so the best choice usually comes down to what's most convenient for your life. Our San Francisco office is located in the historic Hobart Building in the heart of downtown, easily accessible by public transit. We also have offices in San Anselmo (Marin County), El Dorado Hills (near Sacramento), and offer online therapy in California.

Not sure which location works best? Our intake coordinator can help you figure that out during your consultation call.

  • Holistic therapy is an integrative approach that treats the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, not just the symptoms. Where traditional therapy often focuses primarily on thoughts and behaviors, holistic therapy also honors the role of the body, the nervous system, and the spiritual dimensions of your experience in the healing process.

In practice, this means your sessions might include clinical approaches like CBT or IFS alongside somatic practices, mindfulness, breathwork, or exploration of meaning and purpose. The goal isn't just to feel better. It's to build a life that actually feels like yours.

  • Our San Francisco therapists bring advanced training in a wide range of modalities that we tailor to your specific needs and goals. These include:

Brainspotting · CBT · DBT · Depth Therapy · EMDR · Existential Therapy · Holistic Therapy · IFS · Mindfulness Therapy · Polyvagal Therapy · Psychodynamic Therapy · Relational Therapy · Somatic Therapy · Somatic Experiencing · Spiritual Therapy

You don't need to know which modality is right for you before you start. That's our job. Our intake coordinator can help by matching you with one of our therapists during your consultation call.

Curious about all the modalities we offer?

  • We work with adults, couples, and teens navigating a wide range of experiences, from anxiety, depression, and trauma to relationship difficulties, career stress, life transitions, postpartum challenges, burnout, and questions of meaning and purpose.

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of our clients come because something feels off, and they want more than surface-level solutions. If you're looking for support that addresses root causes rather than just managing symptoms, our holistic approach may be a good fit.

  • Both can be deeply effective, and the best choice depends on what works for you.

That said, many of our clients find that in-person therapy offers something unique. When you come into the office, you're stepping out of your daily routine and into a space that exists solely for your healing. There are fewer distractions, it's easier to tune into your body, and the nervous system often settles more quickly when you're physically present with your therapist. For modalities like Somatic Therapy and Brainspotting, in-person work can be especially powerful.

Online therapy is a wonderful option when you need flexibility, and many clients use a combination of both. What matters most is that you show up consistently for yourself, in whatever format supports that.

  • Absolutely. You can move between in-person and virtual sessions whenever you need to, no complicated process required. Life changes, schedules shift, and we want therapy to work with your life, not against it. Just let your therapist know, and we'll adjust.

  • We work with a wide range of mental health concerns and life experiences. You can find our full list of specialties here.

Some of the most common reasons people come to us include:

    Anxiety · Depression · Trauma & C-PTSD · Couples & Relationship Issues · Postpartum Depression · Low Self-Esteem · Shadow Work · Spirituality & Existential Questions · Teen Mental Health · Psychedelic Integration

Our holistic approach is designed to get to the root of what's keeping you stuck, not just manage symptoms. If you're not sure whether what you're experiencing is something we can help with, schedule a free consultation and we'll talk it through.

  • Yes. Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people come to us, and our approach goes beyond surface-level coping strategies. Our San Francisco therapists use CBT, Somatic Therapy, IFS, EMDR and Brainspotting to get to the root of anxiety, not just quiet the symptoms. Whether you're navigating panic attacks, high-functioning anxiety, perfectionism, or a low-grade worry that never quite lets up, we can help. Learn more about our anxiety therapy services or book a free consultation to get started.

  • Yes. Our San Francisco therapists specialize in working with complex trauma (C-PTSD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), childhood trauma, intergenerational trauma, and relational wounds that shape how you move through the world. We use EMDR, Somatic Therapy, Brainspotting, and IFS to help you process what happened in a way that's safe, paced, and grounded in your body. Trauma doesn't have to keep running the show. Learn more about our trauma therapy or schedule a consultation.

  • Yes. Our couples therapists work with partners in all kinds of relationships, including married couples, dating partners, LGBTQIA+ couples, and polyamorous and non-traditional relationship structures. Whatever your relationship looks like, if you're feeling disconnected, stuck in repetitive conflict, navigating a trust rupture, or struggling to find your way back to each other, we can help. We use relational and evidence-based approaches to help you understand the patterns beneath the surface and rebuild real intimacy, communication, and trust. Evening and weekend appointments are available at our San Francisco office. Learn more about our couples counseling or book a consultation.

  • The relationship between you and your therapist is the foundation of the work. If the fit doesn't feel right, we want to know, and we want to help.

One of the advantages of working with a group practice like The Holistic Counseling Center is that switching therapists is simple and uncomplicated. If it doesn’t feel right you don’t need a “reason” and your therapist doesn’t take it personally. Just let our intake coordinator know, and we'll match you with someone else on our team. You can always chat with your therapist before a first session to see how it feels and assess for yourself if it’s a good fit. We have a team of therapists with different styles, specialties, and personalities, and the goal is always to find the right person for you.

  • Yes! We understand that most of our clients are balancing busy schedules, and we don't want timing to be a barrier to getting support. Our San Francisco therapists offer evening and weekend appointments.

When you schedule your consultation, let our intake coordinator know your scheduling preferences and we'll match you with a therapist who has availability that works for your life.

  • Sessions range from $160 to $300, depending on which therapist you work with.

We do not accept insurance directly, but we can help you seek reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Many of our clients with PPO insurance are reimbursed 50–80% of the session fee, which can bring the out-of-pocket cost to $20–$150 per session.

Learn more about our fees and how to work with insurance.

  • We are an out-of-network provider for most PPO insurance plans. While we don't bill insurance directly, we provide detailed superbills with everything your insurance company needs to process your out-of-network claim.

Many clients are surprised to learn they can get significant reimbursement. If you're not sure what your plan covers, we're happy to help you figure that out. Learn more on our fees page.
