INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (IFS) THERAPY
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps you heal by getting to know your internal family system and promotes deep healing, integration, and personal growth.
There are no bad parts.
Your inner family can be understood as different ‘parts’, and each one holds different beliefs, emotions, and memories. Every part has its own unique role and intention and impacts every part of your life, from how you navigate relationships, your self-esteem and your motivation to live life to its fullest.
When you work with one of our therapists for IFS therapy, you can learn to identify and understand these parts with compassion and curiosity. You can learn what your parts need, learn how to care deeply for yourself, and finally heal the parts and places within you that have been wounded, abandoned or underdeveloped.
WHAT IS Internal family systems Therapy?
“The goal of IFS is to permanently heal emotional wounds”
— frank anderson
IFS works by helping you identify and understand all your different parts, including their roles, emotions, and underlying motivations. Through techniques such as visualization, somatic awareness, learning how to regulate your nervous system, and guided meditation, you can learn to communicate with your parts and develop a deeper awareness of their internal dynamics. By cultivating empathy and curiosity toward these parts of yourself, you can work towards healing past wounds, resolving conflicts, and achieving a more balanced and integrated sense of self. Ultimately, the goal of IFS is to help you permanently heal emotional wounds.
How Does Internal family systems WORK?
We use IFS at The Holistic Counseling Center because it recognizes and honors the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit. By addressing the internal conflicts and deep childhood programming that contribute to psychological distress, IFS therapy can promote holistic healing and personal growth. Additionally, IFS emphasizes self-compassion and acceptance, aligning with the principles of holistic wellness that prioritize self-awareness, self-care, root cause healing and personal transformation.

You will gain a deeper understanding of yourself after just a few sessions, and since healing isn’t linear, it’s likely that you will benefit from longer-term therapy to get to the root cause of your symptoms and find lasting relief.
