What People are Saying
★★★★★
The Holistic Counseling Center is so aptly named as they are holistic, heart-centered, and provide counseling with a specialization on a wide range of issues we face in a modern world. As an energy healer and life coach, I realize the value of integrated therapy that sees the whole person including their spiritual aspects. I got a chance to get to know each practitioner when I came to teach Reiki to the center and they each seemed compassionate, dedicated to honing their skills, and helping people heal. I would recommend this center for anyone looking for guidance! And their offices are so welcoming beautiful.

The shadow contains the parts of yourself that you've learned to hide, deny, or long ago abandoned—often during childhood when these parts didn’t feel safe or welcome to show up in the world. These might be emotions, desires, needs, or aspects of your personality that didn't fit with your family system or cultural norms. While pushing these aspects into the unconscious might have served you then, they continue to influence your life now, most often through maladaptive relationship patterns, triggers and self-sabotaging behaviors. Working with your shadow allows you to unearth and reclaim these lost parts of yourself, so you can get to know your true self, and experience deeper healing and integration.
-
Shadow work is a gradual process that unfolds at its own, unique pace. While you might experience significant insights and shifts within the first few sessions, deep integration typically occurs over months or years. We recommend committing to at least 6 months of weekly or bi-weekly sessions sessions to create lasting change.
-
Yes, when done with a trained mental health professional, shadow work is safe. Our therapists are skilled at pacing the work appropriately and ensuring you have adequate capacity and resources throughout the process. We never push you to explore anything you're not ready to face.
-
Yes, shadow work can be very effective for anxiety and depression treatment, especially when these conditions stem from disconnection from parts of yourself or unprocessed experiences. By integrating shadow aspects, many clients experience relief from symptoms and a greater sense of wholeness.
-
While traditional therapy often focuses on symptom management or behavioral change, shadow work invites you to go deeper. This work helps you understand and transform the root causes of your challenges, not just manage the chaos they create in your life. We blend depth psychology with evidence-based psychotherapy modalities (such as CBT, DBT, Somatic therapy, Spiritual therapy and IFS therapy) to support transformation at all levels—mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Rather than just treating symptoms, shadow work helps you discover the gifts hidden within your challenges and transform unconscious patterns into conscious choices. This creates lasting change that impacts every area of your life.
-
Shadow work is actually the opposite of spiritual bypassing. While spiritual bypassing attempts to transcend or avoid difficult emotions and experiences, shadow work invites you to face them directly with compassion and curiosity. This creates genuine spiritual growth and emotional maturity.
-
Shadow work invites deep self-reflection and inner exploration. Here are some ways you can prepare to get the most out of your shadow work journey:
Start a stream of consciousness journal
Practice mindfulness or meditation
Share your process with a trusted friend or a community of like minded people
Make self-care a priority in your daily life
Pay attention to recurring dreams or synchronicities in your life
Create space for quiet reflection, even if only for 5 minutes a day
-
It’s totally normal! And happens when you recognize the depth and power of this work. When you work with one of our shadow work therapists, we work with you, at a pace that works for you. This means that you might be uncomfortable, but not re-traumatized or pushed into exploring any territory that you’re not ready for. You can always ask your therapist about the process, timing, or any other questions or fears that arise during the work.
-
If you're ready to explore shadow work, make sure to work with a licensed mental health professional with specific training in depth psychology and shadow work.
